Reili Lohansha (eleven years ago)
“Reilliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! REILLI! WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!”
Reilli looked in the direction of the shouts and snickered. She knew her cousins would never find her. Hopefully Brynna wouldn’t come looking. She had an uncanny way of always finding Reilli no matter how secluded her chosen perch of the day.
The voices faded into the distance…as usual her cousins were looking in the wrong direction. Finally, thought Reilli, some peace and quiet. Reilli preferred the solitude of the aloneness of the forests bordering the jade sea to the boisterous household filled with her luxon cousins. She had lived with her father’s cousin Bry for 4 years now. The memories of her other life had faded away, all except one. She could still remember the night that she lost her family, and the promise her brother made to find her. She hadn’t lost hope yet, after all, she was no where near her home and he would have to do a lot of looking. She clung to her childish belief that he had looked constantly for her since that night.
Now that her cousins’ voices were gone, Reilli could concentrate on the natural sounds around her. She had read books about the most well known rangers; she wanted to be better than any of them someday. So she began her self-conducted lesson of the day. Today was bird identification. So she sat very still and listened and watched. By the days end, she was satisfied. She had learned much and recorded it all in her journal.
She dropped quietly to the ground. Now she would try to make it to the farmhouse without disturbing the silence or catching the attention of any of its denizens. She had learned how to slip quietly through the forest, how to stay downwind, how to step so lightly as to not leave footprints. She could make it all the way home now without causing a single bird to take flight. Her cousins couldn’t get two feet from the house without sending flocks into flight.
She knew Bry would be waiting for her. Bry was the only one that understood her need to be alone.
“Reilli, there you are!” Bry smiled as her small responsibility on two legs walked through the door. “What did you do today?’’
Reilli opened her journal, and as was her habit, told Bry everything that she had observed that day. She then looked expectantly at Bry and was not disappointed as Bry asked her questions. Bry always truly listened to her.
“Now, Reilli, I have some important news.” Reilli looked earnestly at Bryanna, she wasn’t used to hearing such a serious tone from her.
“What is it, Bry?”
“We are going to travel to Elona.” “We leave tomorrow so let’s go pack now.”
