Amy awoke and felt the covers next to her expecting to find Asuir, but was greeted only by an empty space as her hand sifted through the cool material of the bed covers. She sat up rubbing her eyes, pondering the reason for her husband’s absence until the shouts of the encampment guards outside began to intrude upon the silence.
“SOMEONE HELP US MOVE KNOLL!”, came a shout from just outside where two junior guards where attempting to move the severely injured Guardsman Knoll. Amy jumped out of bed quickly and ran out of her tent and into the fresh morning air of the encampment, but was met with a picture of blood and anguish when she saw the extent of Knoll’s wounds.
“Arrrghhh..” Knoll let out a shrill cry of pain as the two guards lowered him to the ground. Azinna Videl, one of the high priestesses recently taken in by the guild had arrived on the scene to attend to his wounds, followed closely by Amy who acted as her assistant. Amy propped his head up with a makeshift pillow of linen taken from the morning’s laundry drying by the fire as Azinna began the inspection.
After a few quick looks up and down the guard she revealed the damage. “He has several blade wounds, the largest and most life threatening being the puncture to his left shoulder…and… he’s lost a lot of blood, I’m afraid there isn’t much we can do for him” Azinna informed, she was about to add something else to the diagnosis until Knoll himself interrupted.
“LaHeRI……As…ASuiR…Th…tHe…ThE..…BLaDE …UGH..”. Talking only forced blood into his throat which caused him to splutter.
“Asuir? What about Asuir?!!” Amy demanded. By this time Telcontar and Raziel had both come to see what the commotion was about. “This is the work of Asuir Laheri ?!” Telcontar inquired.
“He’s been gone all night, I’m worried..” Amy replied then gave a worrying look over to Azinna, who looked away as though she didn’t want to confirm the obvious.
“I saw him late last night walking around the camp, mumbling to himself …something about a blade?” Raziel added.
Knoll interrupted the groups’ questions with another splutter before taking his last breath. Life had escaped the guard as he lay dead on the encampment ground. Telcontar stood up sharply and let out a commanding cry. “FIND ASUIR LAHERI ! TRAITOR TO THE CAUSE ! “.
Asuir stood upon the edge of the highest cliff face of the burning island that the Scars Meadows guild made their home on, brandishing the Orrian Katana of the fallen warrior Dahnel Taijuir. He held it up high and marveled at its beauty as the sun glistened off the blade. “Such an elegant design, and most likely the last of its type, a weapon of a true Orrian.”
Trub looked up from the battle plans at Laheri as he continued to describe the swords brilliance. “Maybe if you spent less time daydreaming and more time helping me plan we could leave earlier for supper, ya chit…” the last part she said under her breath. Before he could reply with a comeback Trub heard the shouts of frantic soldiers outside the hall. “Wonder what’s going on out there?” she asked. “Talk of a traitor or something” she said, almost talking to herself. When she turned around she noticed Asuir had gotten right up behind her, which startled her.
“CHECK THE MAIN HALL ..IT’S THE ONLY PLACE LEFT! “ came a shout from just outside the door.
“Asuir ..what’s going on ..” she looked at him in fear as an unfamiliar smirk came across his face. Asuir quickly reached to his lower back and with a swift movement pulled a menacing, twisted looking weapon out of his robes which bore the emblem of a wilting rose upon the lower part of the blade, very much contrasting with the elegant orrian sword in his other hand.
“Dahnel's Katana isn’t the only sword recently added to my collection…”
