"wtf is an asynchronous multiplayer game?" you ask. basically, it's a game where players take turns with their moves whenever. so, it's good for things like turn-based strategy games or puzzle games. most people are probably familiar with the more popular games like words with friends, hanging with friends, or draw something.
since i'm on the road a lot and i have a shiny new android tablet (along with my phone), i've been looking into these types of games that i can play with a group of people. so far, i have only found a couple.
uniwar hd platform: cross (android, ios) price: $4.99 maximum players: 8
greed corp hd platform: cross (android, ios) price: free maximum players: 4
drisk platform: android price: $1.99 maximum players: 6
scrabble free platform: cross (android, ios) price: free maximum players: not specified
is anyone interested in playing these? at the very least, we could all try greed corp since it's free anyway.
i was honestly surprised that i couldn't find more. mobile devices seem like the perfect platform to get a turn-based strategy game going or even a digital version of board games like risk or monopoly. maybe ios has more options since i focused mainly on android.
i installed greed corp last night and played the tutorial. it's basically a turn-based strategy game where the point of the game is to capture all of your opponent's tiles. capturing tiles is done with a simple numbers based combat. you can capture free tiles by moving your troops on it, and you can capture an opponent's tile simply by moving more troops on it than what they have.
there's also a resource management aspect where you get a certain amount of resources per turn to build stuff. however, you can choose to mine your tiles for more resources, but it depletes them. once they are fully depleted, you lose the tile as well as any buildings and troops on it.
so, the end goal is capturing all of the opponent's tiles, but it involves balancing resources with troops.
